There are two answers to this and I'll attempt to explain to the best of my abilities:
- You can mark sketches as sketches by unchecking the "Finished Piece?" check-mark, so they will not show up in the Art Portal - just in your NG profile.
- You are a mighty supporter, so what you could do is tag sketches with #sketch and add #sketch to the "Suggested Tags" here: https://circlia.newgrounds.com/art (the little "Edit"-link/-button)

I hope that was understandable and satisfactory. If not: I'm half-asleep, so I'll be going to bed now. I'll likely return tomorrow.

Addendum: And tag finished pieces with something like #finished-art. (You are awake. Your ideas in this regard will probably better than mine...)

@Circlia They will be separated by the use of the other tag.
They will both show by default, though.

I will be repeating some things that @Yatsufusa already mentioned. There is something like that. There is a checkbox in case you are scouted(, and you are).

"Finished Piece? ☑ This is not a sketch, include in the Art Portal."
Unchecking this will make your art appear among unscouted artists for people browsing the art portal; and people can see the art on your profile. The artwork won't display any score (stars).

I am unsure if there are any other visual differences from artwork that have the checkbox checked.

Just as a personal reflection, there could be more of a visual indicator that it's a sketch. Furaffinity has an entire separate gallery for sketches on your profile for you. (perhaps this is what you want.)
